RESOLUTION NO. 2026-021
DESIGNATE THE WHATCOM COUNTY FERRY ADVISORY COMMITTEE AS THE
INITIAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE FOR THE WHATCOM COUNTY FERRY DISTRICT
(Council acting as the Whatcom County Ferry District Board of Supervisors)
WHEREAS, The Lummi Island Ferry Advisory Committee was established in 2012;
and
WHEREAS, The Lummi Island Ferry Advisory Committee membership requirements
and name were amended in 2023 to be the Whatcom County Ferry Advisory Committee;
and
WHEREAS, Engrossed House bill 2588/RCW 36.54 states the legislative authority
shall promptly appoint a county ferry district advisory committee; and
WHEREAS, Engrossed House bill 2588/RCW 36.54 also states "If a county
transitioning from a county -owned ferry system to a county ferry district has an existing,
locally established ferry advisory committee, the governing body of the ferry district shall
designate the existing committee to fulfill the requirements of this section."; and
WHEREAS, the Whatcom County Council has resolved to form a county ferry district
pursuant to Engrossed House Bill 2588/RCW Chapter 36.54; and
WHEREAS, the current Whatcom County Ferry District Board of Supervisors
(WCFDBS) is the Whatcom County Council; and
WHEREAS, Future amendments may be necessary to ensure full representation of
the new county -wide ferry district.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Whatcom County Ferry District Board
of Supervisors (WCFDBS) that the current existing Whatcom County Ferry Advisory
Committee shall fulfill the duties of the Whatcom County Ferry District Advisory Committee
until the membership requirements of the committee are amended to ensure representation
of the new county -wide district.
