RE: School Director District Boundary Changes
Dear Shirley,
Population data from the 2000 census showed a significant increase in the eastern portion of the
Mount Baker School District. RCW 28A.315.593 requires that our Director Districts be nearly
equal in population. This caused us to need to redefine the boundaries of our Director Districts.
Our,School Board met several times throughout the summer and worked with Sammamish Data
Systems to develop a model for the redefined boundaries. The Board held a public hearing on
December 6, 2001 and took action at a regularly scheduled Board meeting on December 13, 2001.
Please find attached the following:
1. Mount Baker School District Board resolution 01/02-6 redefining the Director District
Boundaries;
2. Legal descriptions of the new boundaries;
.3. Color snaps of the new boundaries, including detail maps of portions of the new boundaries.
Please let me know if any additional inforination of documentation is required to complete the
process of redefining the Director District boundaries for Mount Baker School District.

REDISTRICTING DIRECTOR DISTRICTS
To ADJUST To 2000 U.S. CENSUS DATA
WHEREAS the Mt Baker School District No. 507 has received the 2000 federal decennial census
information applicable to the Mt Baker School District;
WHEREAS the Mount Baker School District is a special purpose district with a governing body comprised
by internal director districts delineated in Chapter 29.70.100 of the Revised Code of Washington and is obligated
to respond accordingly to receipt of census data;
WHEREAS the Mount Baker School District No. 507 has conducted a review of these census data
relative to the criteria established by Chapters 28A.343.040 and 29.70.100(4) of the Revised Code_ of
Washington resulting in the development of modifications to its director districts;
WHEREAS a public hearing was advertised in the Bellingham Herald and held on Thursday, December
2001, for the purpose of presenting the proposed Mount School District No. 507 director districts revisions and
to receive related public comments; and,
WHEREAS after hearing and considering public comment relative to the proposed director district
revisions for more than one week, pursuant to Chapter 29.70.100(5) of the Revised Code of Washington the
Mount School District No. 507 Board of Directors has determined that director district revisions are necessary to
provide for constituent needs and to comply with statutory requirements.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mount School District No. 507 Board of Directors adopts
the director revisions presented and directs the Superintendent, as Board Secretary to so notify the Educational
Service District and appropriate Whatcom County officials.
Adopted this 13th day of December 2001.

BOARD POLICY
Director District Boundaries
It is the responsibility of the Board of Directors to establish the
boundaries of the director districts of the school district and to
redistrict such districts as necessary.
The Board of Directors, with the assistance of the school administration
shall develop a plan of proposed director districts within eight months of
any of the following events:
1. Receipt of federal decennial census data;
2. Transfer of territory to or from the district;
3. Annexation of territory to or from the district
The plan of proposed director districts shall meet the following criteria
in which the districts shall:
1. Be as nearly as possible equal in population;
2. Be as compact as possible and consist of a
geographically contiguous area;
3. Not favor or disfavor any racial group or political
party; and
4. As much as possible, coincide with natural boundaries.
