In the Ballot Guide, to the right of each measure or candidate, is a number which is assigned to a position on your Ballot Card. 3, Use a paper clip, tooth pick or sharp pencil to punch out the pre -scored square located just above the number assigned to the candidate or measure. 4. Write in candidates may be voted for by using the space provided on the flap attached to your ballot card. You must list both the Name and Office of the write-in candidate and the Political Party in Partisan races. Do not punch out a position number for any other candidate for that office. 5. After you have finished voting, place your Ballot Card in the Ballot Security Envelope. 6. Put a first-class stamp on the envelope and mail it so it is postmarked no later than the day of the election. Director: Patricia Bieber Curriculum Director: Pamela Terhorst A RESOLUTION of the Board of Directors of Mount Baker School District 'No. 507, Whatcom County, Washington, providing for the submission to the qualified electors of the, District at a special election to be held therein on May 21, 1996 of the proposition of whether or not there should be levied an excess tax of approximately $ 2.81 per thousand dollars of assessed valuation (based on 100% true and fair value unless specifically otherwise provided by law) to provide $1,780,000 for the School District's General Fund to pay part of the general expenses of maintenance and operation of the District, such levy to be made in 1996 for collection in 1997. And whether there should be levied a further excess tax of approximately $2.81 per thousand dollars of assessed valuation (based on 100% of true and fair value) to provide $1,850,000 for the School District's General Fund to pay part of the general expenses of maintenance and operation of the District, such levy to be made in 1997 for collection in 1998. WHEREAS, the money in the General Fund of the Mount Baker School District 507, Whatcom County, Washington is insufficient to enable the District to take care of all of its necessary financial obligations and to properly meet the educational needs of the students attending the District's schools; and WHEREAS, in order to properly provide for said financial obligations and educational needs of the District for the next three successive school years (96/97, 97/98, 98/99), it is deemed necessary that a tax of approximately $2.81 per thousand dollars of assessed valuation (based on 100% of true and fair value) to provide $1,780,000 for the District's General Fund be levied upon all of the taxable property within the District in excess of the maximum annual tax levy permitted by law to be levied for the District without a vote of the electors, such levy to be made in 1996 for collection in 1997 and that a tax of approximately $2.81 per thousand dollars of assessed valuation (based on 100% of true and fair value) to provide $1,850,000 for the District's General Fund be levied upon all of the taxable property within the District in excess of the maximum annual tax levy permitted by law to be levied for the District without a vote of the electors, such levy to be made in 1997 for collection in 1998; and page 1 of 3 MISSION STATEMENT The Mount Baker School District, working with the community, will provide all students a strong educational foundation upon which they can build their futures as productive citizens in our changing world. MOUNT BAKER SCHOOL DISTRICT NO 507 DEMING WASHINGTON WHEREAS, the Constitution and laws of the State of Washington require that the question of whether or not such excess tax may be levied must be submitted to the qualified electors of the District for their ratification or rejection, NOW, THEREFOR, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Directors of the Mount Baker School District No 507, Whatcom County, Washington, as follows: Section 1. It is hereby found and declared that the welfare of the children of the District requires it to carry out the plans hereinafter provided. Section 2. In order to provide $1,780,000 for the General Fund of the District, a tax of approximately $2.81 per thousand dollars of assessed valuation (based on 100% of true and fair value unless specifically otherwise provided by law) should be levied in 1996 for collection in 1997 upon all of the taxable property within the District in excess of the maximum annual tax levy permitted by law to be levied for the District without a vote of the electors, and that in order to provide $1,850,000 for the General Fund of the District, a tax of approximately $2.81 per thousand assessed valuation (based on true and fair value) should be levied in 1997 for collection in 1998 upon all the taxable property within the District in excess of the maximum annual levy permitted by law to be levied for the District without a vote of the electors. Upon approval by the voters of Proposition No. 1 hereinafter set forth, the District may use the proceeds of such levies during the 1996/97, 1997/98 and 1998/99 school years by incurring an indebtedness by the issuance of warrants against the General Fund of the District for the purpose of purchasing the school busses authorized by this Resolution. Section 3. It is hereby found and declared that an emergency exits requiring the submission to the qualified electors of the District of the proposition of whether or not there should be levied such an excess tax for the purpose described herein at a special election to be held herein on May 21, 1996. The Whatcom County Auditor as ex officio supervisor of election in Whatcom County is hereby requested to also find that such an emergency exists and to call and conduct said special election to be held within the District on that date and to submit to the qualified electors of the District the proposition hereinafter set forth. And whether there should be levied a further excess tax of approximately $0.15 per thousand dollars of assessed valuation (based on 100% of true and fair value) to provide $100,000 for the School District's Transportation Vehicle Fund to allow said District to purchase school busses, such levy to be made in 1997 for collection in 1998. WHEREAS, the money in the Transportation Vehicle Fund of the Mount Baker School District 507, Whatcom County, Washington is insufficient to enable the District to acquire the necessary school busses to properly meet the transportation needs of the students attending the District's schools, and that the anticipated future funding from the State will be insufficient to meet these needs; and WHEREAS, due to the age and condition of certain busses of the school fleet now being operated by the district, it will be necessary for the District to purchase new busses to meet the transportation needs of the District; and WHEREAS, in order to properly provide for said transportation needs of the District for the next three successive school years (96/97, 97/98, 98/99), it is deemed necessary that a tax of approximately $0.08 per thousand dollars of assessed valuation (based on 100% of true and fair value) to provide $50,000 for the District's Transportation Vehicle Fund be levied upon all of the taxable property within the District in excess of the maximum annual tax levy permitted by law to be levied for the District without a vote of the electors, such levy to be made in 1996 for collection in 1997 and that a tax of approximately $0.15 per thousand dollars of assessed valuation (based on 100% of true and fair value) to provide $100,000 for the District's Transportation Vehicle Fund be levied upon all of the taxable property within the District in excess of the maximum annual tax levy permitted by law to be levied for the District without a vote of the electors, such levy to be made in 1997 for collection in 1998; and page 1 of 3 MISSION STATEMENT The Mount Baker School District, working with the community, will provide all students a strong educational foundation upon which they can build their futures as productive citizens in our changing world.
