Both have workers who han- dle money and deal with the public. Both have people with desk jobs. Both need plenty.of parking. Those similarities make the Whatcom State Bank building in downtown Ferndale a good choice for the new City Hall, said Stan Strebel, city man- ager. 1E"Banks and city halls are pretty compatible," he said. I n D e- cember,m b City Council members Strebel agreed to buy the va- cant Lwo-story bank building at Fourth and Main streets for $675,000. Faber Brothers Construc- tion of Lynden recently won an $84,800 contract to remodel the interior. Total renovation costs, including the cost of an elevator, should range from $140,000 to $150,000, Strebel said. Remodeling could begin in a few weeks and finish by late June, enabling City Hall work- ers to move in by early July, he said. "I think we can move our- selves over a weekend," he said. "There shouldn't be much interruption." The bank building sits on the west edge of downtown, oar c frnm the, I J.S.
