HomeMy WebLinkAbout2013 - Fire Protection District 21 Note on Fire District Obligation To Pay on levy & bonds02/05/13:
While adding a Lynden address to the street file (specifically Shea St. the
assessor's office showed the address in FIRE DISTRICT 21, yet the
address is inside the city limits and not in the voting district. I believed that
the reason was because this area was annexed recently into the Lynden
city limits, but could not find any information in the office about the
annexation nor any information about the Fire District Go Bond. I called
both the City of Lynden and Assessor's office: Evidently the State Attorney
General's Office levied a "NON -VOTED" debt upon FIRE DISTRICT 21 (Go
Bond), and yes that area of Lynden was annexed in afterwards so that area
is still paying on the Go Bond until it is paid in full. Once annexed into the
City of Lynden, however, they have no further voting rights within the
district.
As a rule, residents within FIRE DISTRICTS only (does not apply to
Cemetery or Water Districts) are obligated to continue paying on such
levy/bond to term, even if that area later gets incorporated into a city limits.
