If any further information is needed please contact me at the above rthr�/fve it �� le k Cit of Su Ms ?� 4JC00Mco 4 ]r 104 SUN 2 d ��OUD�ro�e 1991 .ta , 4.•�M�VVV• /AEe El W yAT��M � py o�NRS�of D AUD/rpQ SUN 28 1991 RESOLUTION NO. 398 r- A RESOLUTION IN THE MATTER OF SUBMITTING TO THE VOTERS A PROPOSAL (SUBSTITUTE HOUSE BILL 1342)-AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF SUMAS TO IMPOSE A ONE (1) CENT PER�GALLON EXCISE TAX ON THE RETAIL SALE OF MOTOR VEHICLE FUEL AND SPECIAL FUEL WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS WHEREAS, the City of Sumas is a "Border Area Jurisdiction" being located within 10 miles of the U.S./Canadian border; and WHEREAS, the current year-to-year financial support for City street maintenance and construction has not been sufficient to adequately fund the City's street maintenance and construction needs; and WHEREAS, the City has an obligation to construct and maintain its streets at all times when necessary; and WHEREAS, Substitute House Bill 1342, as passed by the Washington State Legislature and encompassed within a new chapter of Title 82 RCW, authorizes the City to impose an excise tax on the retail sale of motor vehicle for special fuel up to 1 cent per gallon of retail gasoline sold within the Sumas City Limits, if the tax is approved by the majority vote of the registered voters within the City, voting on the tax at a general or special election; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED that the Sumas City Council shall present to the Whatcom County Auditor's office a proposition to be placed on the ballot for the election to be held on the 17th of September, 1991; and said proposition shall state as follows: SUMAS STREET CONSTRUCTION AND MAINTENANCE TAX ON THE RETAIL SALE OF GASOLINE Shall the City of Sumas impose a one (1) cent per gallon tax to be used for construction and maintenance of Sumas City streets, on the retail sale of gasoline (motor vehicle fuel or special fuel as defined by statute) within the Sumas City Limits as specified in Sumas City Resolution No. 398 .
