Ordinance amending the 2026 Whatcom County Budget, request no. 5, in the amount of $741,113
SUMMARY STATEMENT OR LEGAL NOTICE LANGUAGE:
Supplemental #5 requests funding from the General Fund:
1. To appropriate $125,000 in Sheriff to fund firearms safety program using grant funds.
2. To appropriate $6,975 in Sheriff to fund purchase of equipment for school zone safety using
grant funds.
3. To appropriate $13,842 in Sheriff to fund drug trafficking investigation overtime using grant
funds.
4. To appropriate $97,597 in Health to fund additional National Pollutant Discharge Elimination
System (NPDES) source control program requirements using grant funds.
From the Emergency Management Fund:
5. To appropriate $10,044 in Sheriff to fund terrorism prevention and hazard preparation
activities using grant funds.
From the Real Estate Excise Tax II Fund:
6. To appropriate $55,000 in Parks & Recreation to fund Van Zandt Community Hall
Renovation.
From the Public Utilities Improvement Fund:
7. To appropriate $12,820 in Parks & Recreation to fund HVAC replacement for the Parks
Headquarters.

ORDINANCE NO. 2026-017
AMENDMENT NO. 5 OF THE 2026 BUDGET
WHEREAS, the 2025-2026 budget was adopted November 19, 2024; and
WHEREAS, changing circumstances require modifications to the approved 2025-2026 budget;
and
WHEREAS, the modifications to the budget have been assembled here for deliberation by the
Whatcom County Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Whatcom County Council that the 2025-2026
Whatcom County Budget Ordinance #2024-057 is hereby amended by adding the following additional
amounts to the 2026 budget included therein:
