Committee Discussion
AB2025-750 Discussion of an ordinance repealing Whatcom County Code 2.170, Forest
Resilience Task Force
Galloway stated this is just a brief committee discussion to share that this is
a logistical process. The Forest Resilience Task Force was established by
this code with a sunset date for the end of this year. As a matter of
procedure, Council would approve this ordinance to repeal the code so that
it will effectively sunset. Given Council's action to receive the draft Forest
Resilience Plan and refer it back to the Forest Advisory Committee (FAC),
it is now under their jurisdiction to guide the next steps.
Alexander Harris, Planning and Development Services Department and staff
facilitator for the Forest Advisory Committee, spoke about next steps for
the plan. They need to discuss how, procedurally, the advisory committee
will take the plan and move forward with the edits they were hoping to
make, and then how to actually begin implementing some of the elements.
There is not an update from the FAC at this point since they have not yet
discussed it, but they plan to focus their December meeting on it.
Elenbaas stated, from listening to the FAC, it seems like they have quite a
bit of interest in moving forward with aspects of the Forest Resilience Plan
and putting the finishing touches on it.
This agenda item was DISCUSSED.
