ORDINANCE NO. 2024-016
ESTABLISHING A TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF TRUCK ROAD
WHEREAS, the Whatcom County Council is authorized to close roads under the
provisions of RCW 36.32.120; and
WHEREAS, Truck Rd was damaged during the Superbowl 2020 flood and the November
2021 flooding exacerbated erosion at this site; and
WHEREAS, in 2021 an emergency project was then constructed; and
WHEREAS, a second phase of work is necessary to realign and repair the road, and
provide required environmental mitigation; and
WHEREAS, the project is anticipated to last from June through the end of November
2024;and
WHEREAS, a detour will be in place during this project; and
WHEREAS, the County Engineer has agreed that it is necessary to close Truck Road for
this project; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Whatcom County Council that the Public
Works Department of Whatcom County is hereby directed to temporarily close Truck Road, from
Deal Road to Mosquito Lake Road; and
BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED, that the County Engineer is hereby directed to install the
appropriate signs and close the road at a suitable time to be coordinated with the contractor,
once the project commences; and
BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED, that the Whatcom County Sheriff and Washington State
Patrol be notified by a copy of this ordinance; and
BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED, that once the project is complete, the temporary closure
shall expire; and

BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED, that once the project is complete, the County Engineer is
hereby directed to remove all road closure signs and reopen the roadway.
