7 AMENDING WHATCOM COUNTY CODE CHAPTER 2.145 TO CLARIFY MEMBER
8 REQUIREMENTS ON THE WHATCOM COUNTY FERRY ADVISORY COMMITTEE

10 WHEREAS, the Whatcom County Council adopted Ordinance 2023-057 in October
11 2023 to restructure the Lummi Island Ferry Advisory Committee into the Whatcom County
12 Ferry Advisory Committee; and
13
14 WHEREAS, the County Council intended for four of the positions on the advisory
15 group to be held by individuals who do not live on Lummi Island; and
16
17 WHEREAS, the previous Code restricted the off -island members from owning
18 property on the island, which was not included in the new Code language; and
19
20 WHEREAS, the language in Ordinance 2023-057 could be misinterpreted to allow
21 appointment of only 2 members who do not live on the island; and
22
23 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Whatcom County Council to amend
24 Whatcom Co urtt tbd'6'�;etp}on 2.145.040 as shown in Exhibit A.

16 A. The committee shall consist of nine voting members.

28 B. The county council shall appoint the committee members. Member terms will be three
29 years; provided, that the terms of members first appointed will be staggered so that three
30 of the committee members shall be appointed for two years. Members of the committee
31 shall serve without compensation. (Ord. 2023-057 Exh. A; Ord. 2012-005 Exh. A).
