Requests appropriation of $88,000 to fund replacement of a failing hot water boiler used for the jail
kitchen and laundry for a total project budget of $9,632,700.

ORDINANCE NO. 2023 - 052
ORDINANCE AMENDING THE PROJECT BASED BUDGET FOR THE 2010 JAIL
IMPROVEMENT FUND, REQUEST NO. 6
WHEREAS, Ordinance 2011-031 established the project budget for jail improvements,
including the Design2Last contract for building assessment studies, cost estimates and oversight
of various projects, and
WHEREAS, since 2011 major projects have been accomplished in the Public Safety
Building and Work Center including replacements of jail controls, fire alarms, detention doors and
hardware; as well as many miscellaneous smaller projects as needed, and
WHEREAS, replacement of the jail elevators is currently underway as approved in request
number 5, and
WHEREAS, the Public Safety Building kitchen and laundry hot water heater is failing, and
WHEREAS, additional funding is needed to fully fund this project, and
WHEREAS, funding is available from the Jail Fund capital improvement fee to support this
necessary repair,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Whatcom County Council that Ordinance
2011-031 is hereby amended by adding $88,000 of expenditure authority, as described in Exhibit
A, to the current amended project budget of $9,544,700, for a total amended project budget of
$9,632,700.
