ORDINANCE NO. 2023 - 046
ESTABLISHING A TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF WEST SMITH RD FROM NORTHWEST
DR TO THE FERNDALE CITY LIMITS
WHEREAS, the Whatcom County Council is authorized to close roads under the
provisions of RCW 36.32.120; and
WHEREAS, the City of Ferndale has requested to close West Smith Road as part of
their Pump Station 15 Decommissioning Project; and
WHEREAS, the County Engineer has agreed that it is necessary to close West Smith
Road for this project; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Whatcom County Council that the
City of Ferndale is hereby authorized to temporarily close West Smith Rd for up to 40
working days; and
BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED, that the County Engineer is hereby directed to install,
or cause to be installed, the appropriate signs and close the roads at a suitable time to be
coordinated with City of Ferndale, once the project commences; and
BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED, that the Whatcom County Sheriff and Washington
State Patrol be notified by a copy of this ordinance; and
BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED, that once the City of Ferndale's project is complete,
the temporary closure shall expire; and
BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED, that once the City of Ferndale's project is complete,
the County Engineer is hereby directed to remove, or cause to be removed, all road closure
signs and- rgpp�n the roadways.
