SUMMARY STATEMENT OR LEGAL NOTICE LANGUAGE:
Requests appropriation of $63,000 to fund additional work needed to finish the trail to connect the
Chanterelle Trail to the Hertz Trail for a total project budget of $958,025.

ORDINANCE NO. 2023 - 021
ORDINANCE AMENDING THE PROJECT BUDGET FOR THE LAKE WHATCOM PARK
TRAIL DEVELOPMENT FUND, REQUEST NO. 2
WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 2016-056 established the project budget to develop trails in
Lookout Mountain Forest Preserve and Lake Whatcom Park Recreational Trail Plan; and
WHEREAS, a previous amendment also added budget authority for Lake Whatcom Park
trailhead improvements, and
WHEREAS, an additional $63,000 is currently needed to finish work to connect the
Chanterelle Trail to the Hertz Trail, and
WHEREAS, this work includes construction of new step ladders, reshaping and finishing
trail bed and backslopes, installation of barriers at switchbacks, as well as other miscellaneous
work, and
WHEREAS, funding is available from Real Estate Excise Tax II Fund to provide
additional support to the project budget,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Whatcom County Council that Ordinance
2016-056 is hereby amended by adding $63,000 of expenditure authority, as described in
Exhibit A, to the current project budget of $895,025, for a total amended project budget of
$958,025.
ADOPTED this 11th day of April 2023.
