RESOLUTION NO. 2020-048
REQUESTING WHATCOM COUNTY DISTRIBUTE SURPLUS COMPUTERS AND
SIMILAR DEVICES TO THE COMMUNITY
WHEREAS, the County replaces on average 200 computer and laptops per year; and
WHEREAS, the County currently pays a contractor $0.25 per pound to pick up and
dispose of these devices; and
WHEREAS, these devices are still working and functional; and
WHEREAS, the County has processed these devices to remove all data; and
WHEREAS, many households in our community need these devices; and
WHEREAS, the County has budgeted $1,380,000 to assist schools in purchasing
computers for students and teachers.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Whatcom County Council requests the
Administration immediately establish a program which distributes surplus computers to the
community.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County may achieve this by developing an internal
program or through community partnerships.
