CALL TO ORDER
Committee Chair Todd Donovan called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m. in the
Council Chambers, 311 Grand Avenue, Bellingham, Washington.
ROLL CALL
Present: Carl Weimer, Satpal Sidhu and Todd Donovan
Absent: None
Also Present: Barbara Brenner, Ken Mann, Rud Browne, Barry Buchanan
SPECIAL PRESENTATION
1, WHATCOM COUNTY PARKS AND RECREATION DIRECTOR MICHAEL
MCFARLANE TO PRESENT SEMIANNUAL REPORT (AB2017 -068)
Mike McFarlane, Parks and Recreation Department Director, submitted and read from
a presentation (on file). He reported on winter snow events, including trail rock and debris
slides; Hovandar Park building removal; repair and development of various trails, trailheads,
and playgrounds; and the Nesset house restoration.
Councilmembers discussed and McFarlane answered questions
project proposed by the Point Roberts community, Lily Point Marine
property ownership, reasons for the reroute of the Chuckanut trail, the
Fork Park restroom, traffic and parking problems at Galbraith Lane and
total number of visitations to park facilities, how much park use has
shortages at park facilities, and funding from the Nesset Foundation.
