RESOLUTION NO. 2017 -014
CONDEMNING THE RECENT HATE CRIMES IN
WASHINGTON AND OTHER STATES
WHEREAS, on March 3, 2017, Deep Singh Rai, a Sikh, was shot outside his
home in Kent in an incident being investigated as a hate crime; and
WHEREAS, in Kansas City on February 22, 2017, Srinivas Kuchibhotla was killed
and Alok Madasani was injured in another suspected hate crime against United States
citizens from India; and
WHEREAS, the immigrant community is an important part of Whatcom County
and the nation as a whole; and
WHEREAS, crimes motivated by hate of any race, creed, or religion must be
denounced in the strongest possible terms; and
WHEREAS, Whatcom County is strengthened by its diversity and acceptance of
all peoples.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that Whatcom County Council condemns
these attacks and all others motivated by hate.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Whatcom County Council stands in
support of the immigrant community.
