Ord. 2016 -021 Please Note: Once adopted and signed, ordinances and resolutions are available for viewing and printing on the County's website at. www.co.whatcom.wa.us /council 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 32 33 34 35 36 37 38 39 40 41 42 43 44 45 PROPOSED BY:—County Executive INTRODUCTION DATE: 5/31/2016 ORDINANCE NO. 2016 -021 Amending Whatcom County Code Chapter 2.06.090 To Revise Medical Examiner Advisory Council Membership Designation WHEREAS, Whatcom County Code Section 2.06 sets forth the duties and administration of the Whatcom County Medical Examiner, and WHEREAS, Whatcom County Code subsection 2.06.090 sets out the purpose, duties and membership of the Medical Examiner Advisory Council; and WHEREAS, an amendment to the Whatcom County Code Section 2.06.090 is necessary to clarify membership of the board due to the Advisory Council's approval of a change of composition for one of the designated positions; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Whatcom County Council that Whatcom County Code Section 2.06.090 is hereby amended as indicated in Exhibit A to this Ordinance. �, DQ �Jr h s� day of June ( ^. � 5. The Whatcom County Medical Examiner Advisory Council is hereby formed for 8 the following purposes: 9 1. To review the medical examiner's policies and procedures; 10 2. To review the performance of the medical examiner and make annual written 11 reports to the county council and executive; 12 3. To report to the county and medical examiner, the various jurisdictional needs 13 for the medical examiner function. 14 B. The advisory council shall be comprised of the following members: 15 1. Whatcom County executive; 16 2. Whatcom County prosecuting attorney; 17 3. Whatcom County sheriff; 18 4. Whatcom County health officer; 19 5. Board - certified forensic pathologist; 20 6. City of Bellingham police chief; 21 7. Police chief of another city in Whatcom County. 22 C. The Board - certified forensic pathologist member shall be recommended by the 23 medical examiner and approved by the medical examiner advisory council 24 membership. The police chief position from a city other than Bellingham shall be 25 selected by the cities' police chiefs and rotated periodically. Page 2 1 D. The advisory council shall meet at least once a year to review the medical 2 examiner function. A majority of five members of the council may call for a special 3 meeting, if necessary (Ord. 92 -42 (part)). 4 Page 3
