This resolution supports the proposal by the Point Roberts Lighthouse Society to build a lighthouse at Lighthouse
Park in Point Roberts.

RESOLUTION NO. 1016 -001
SUPPORTING CONSTRUCTION OF A LIGHTHOUSE
AT LIGHTHOUSE MARINE PARK
WHEREAS, Lighthouse Marine Park in Point Roberts does not have a lighthouse; and
WHEREAS, the Point Roberts Lighthouse Society has worked diligently for many years
in support of a lighthouse at Lighthouse Marine Park and has developed plans for the
construction of a lighthouse; and
WHEREAS, Darrel and Dorothy Sutton have generously pledged $500,000 to the Point
Roberts Lighthouse Society for the construction of the lighthouse; and
WHEREAS, the US Coast Guard has agreed to place its Point Roberts navigational light
in such a lighthouse, should it be constructed; and
WHEREAS, a lighthouse at Lighthouse Marine Park would have a positive economic
impact on Point Roberts and the county as a whole by serving as a community gathering place,
a recreational focal point, and a tourist attraction;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Whatcom County Council supports the
proposal by the Point Roberts Lighthouse Society to build a lighthouse at Lighthouse Marine
Park in Point Roberts.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that it is the desire of the Council to see this project move
forward and the Council encourages County staff to work with the Lighthouse Society to bring
this proposal to fruition.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the Whatcom County Council thoroughly appreciates
the generous pledge of Darrel and Dorothy Sutton towards the building of the lighthouse.
