The meeting was called to order by Committee Chairperson Marge Laidlaw at 4:00
p.m. in the Council Chambers, 2nd floor, 1000 N. Forest Street.

1. Report by County Executive, Shirley Van Zanten: Update refresher on
funding sources for the new building project and other space needs in
preparation for budget retreat
New building expansion - topics discussed included: The history of the Courthouse
Expansion idea; status report on the building; status report on the new telephone system.,
ener$y savings: change orders; risk insurance adjustments; funding sources; added cost for
phasing in construction; heating and ventilation systems; the foundation on the east side of
the Courthouse; cost of new furnishings; the need for an additional $7 million to complete
the project; the use of reserve funds.
Space needs - the following options were discussed: Purchasing the Employment
Security Building; completing the south end of the Courthouse; renting space in the old
Sears building; renovating Norbell. Parking and occupancy permits were also discussed.
Additional comments were made by: County Executive Shirley Van Zanten; Deputy
Administrator Torn Sutberry; Treasurer Barbara Cory; Henderson; Harris; Brenner;
Laidlaw.
The meeting was adjourned at 5:20 p.m.
