CAPITAL PROJECTS COMMITTEE
Tuesday, September 3, 1991
The meeting was called to order at 5 p.m. in Council Chambers, 1000 N. Forest St., 2nd
floor. Marge Laidlaw was chosen -by _acclamation to chair the meeting.

1. DISCUSSION OF PARKS HEADQUARTERS BUILDING (AB91 -332)
Executive Shirley VanZanten presented the problem. For 20 years Parks has been renting
their offices. The last 5 -year contract expired February, 1991. Parks has expressed an interest
in purchasing that building from the Dept. of Natural Resources. For that purpose, money
has been identified $250,000 in the levy money. The Nor -Bell Building, however, has been
closed, and perhaps it would be better to use that facility for Parks rather than purchasing
another building. Parks has decided to sell the building and has given the County a
September 16, 1991, deadline for purchasing the building. Hence the need to make some
decisions. The asking price is $261,000.
Considerable discussion of both facilities and their best use followed as well as discussion
of the finances involved.
WARNER MOVED TO RECOMMEND APPROVAL TO COUNCIL OF
AUTHORIZING EXECUTIVE TO PURCHASE THE PARKS FACILITIES ON MT.
BAKER HIGHWAY FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES FOR
A MAXIMUM OF $261,000 PLUS INCIDENTAL EXPENSES.
Motion carried unanimously.
- Because there was no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
