HomeMy WebLinkAboutSpecial Council for November 24 1981WHATCOM COUNTY COUNCIL Minutes November 24, 1981 The Special Council meeting of Tuesday, November 24, 1981 was called to order by Chair Van Zanten with Roehl, Hansey, Johnson, and Muenscher present for roll, at 7:37 p.m. Hearing was declared open on the Whatcom County Preliminary Current Expense Fund, Independent Funds and Federal Shared Revenue Fund Budgets for the year 1982. Hansey stated the Finance Committee had reviewed the budgets in many work sessions and has made some adjustments. The following testimony was given: Alex Whitehouse -Gave a status report of the services Whatcom County Crisis Service to date given by the Cris=is Service. 8221 Comax Rd. Services operate 24 hours. Have Blaine, WA many programs as well as educational information. Serve 10,000 people each year. Requesting funds in the amount of $17,860 - 14.8 %o funding for their budget. Demand for services has increased 120% since 1980. The Service has decreased in personnel by 50 %. Total budget is $120,378, a 1.97o increase from last year. Sun Community Center 1112 N. Forest St. Bellingham, WA Peggy Ball Mental Health - Explained the centers operations. A halfway house for Ironic mental health adults. 682% occupancy rate. Operates on three month contracts. 1982 budget is $110,000. Has requested $26,000 from United Way, but United Way has unofficially allocated only $11,500 for 1982. - Explained that Government Assistant Unemployable funds, in the amount of $75,000 has been stopped by the Federal Government. These funds were to be used to match the Title 29 funds. Will only receive 31,000 in GAU funds. No further testimony was given and the hearing was closed. Hansey stated the Finance Committee would be meeting again on Wednesday, at 3:00 p.m. to begin putting the budget together. Meeting adjourned 8:25 p.m.
