HomeMy WebLinkAboutSpecial Council for November 27 1984OFFICIAL PROCEEDINGS SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING Minutes -- November 27, 1984 The Special Council meeting was called to order on Tuesday, November 27, 1984, at 7:07 p.m, by Chairperson Cole with all members present. HEARING - FINANCE COMMITTEE'S PROPOSED 1985 BUDGET, AND ORDINANCE AMENDING SALES TAX RATE Chairperson Cole explained the background on the Finance Committee's meetings and turned the meeting over to Becker, the Chairperson of the Finance Committee. Becker gave further explanation of the Finance Committee's changes to the County Executive's proposed 1985 budget and entered into the record the written communications which had already been received as exhibits for the record. The following people gave verbal testimony for the record: Jack Holtzheimer 3800 Birch Bay Lynden Road Custer Sheila Fox President of the Board of Directors for Womencare Shelter Mary McKinney Master Food Preserver's Program Michael Sullivan 2226 "A" Street Clara Wieland 4041 Tarte Road, Blaine Karen Gilliam 3215 Alderwood Bellingham Spoke in opposition to cutting salaries, loss of jobs and cutting services. Spoke in favor of re- evaluating job positions. Spoke in support of funding for Womencare Shelter in 1985. Spoke in support of main- taining funding for the Master Food Preserver's Program. Spoke against proposed cuts in the Parks Department and the 1985 budget as a whole. Spoke in support of funding for Senior Citizen programs. Spoke in support of funding Ave. for the Master Gardener and Master Food Preservers programs. Michael Brennan Chamber of Commerce Spoke in support of estab- lishing a County Grants Coordinator position; also spoke in support of the County participating with private industry whenever possible.
