HomeMy WebLinkAboutSpecial Council for May 29 1984WHATCOM COUNTY COUNCIL SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING Minutes - May 29, 1984 The Special Council meeting was called to order on Tuesday, May 29, 1984 at 2:40 p.m. by Vice - Chairperson Johnson, with all members present except Cole and Hansey. DETERMINATION OF CONSISTENCY WITH COMPREHENSIVE PLAN Roehl reported that the Planning and Development Committee determined that the use of crushed aggregate outside of the forestry zone on Lummi Island is consistent with the Comprehensive Plan. ROEHL MOVED TO RECOMMEND THAT THE COUNCIL MAKE A DETERMINATION THAT THIS PROJECT IS CONSISTENT WITH THE COMPREHENSIVE PLAN, AND THEREFORE BE PERMITTED, PURSUANT TO THE COUNTY INTERIM ZONING ORDINANCE 2.24.700. Motion carried. BID AWARD - ALPINE H & S. INC. A review Dias held regarding the awarding of a bid to Alpine H & S, Inc. to provide crushed aggregate for road repair on Lummi Island. The approximate value of the bid is $97,280 (9,500 cubic yards @ $10.24 per cubic yard). The following testimony was received: Dick Poole Explained the circumstances that 1937 Seacrest Drive occurred in 1983 that prevented the Lummi Island, WA delivery of the aggregate to Lummi Island, and questioned the awarding of a bid to provide aggregate to a company that involves the same people. Earl Granger Explained the reasons why the Lummi Island, WA aggregate was not transported to Lummi Island in 1983. Richard Whitmore Spoke in support of his company Alpine H & S, Inc. receiving the bid award. ROEHL MOVED TO AWARD THE BID TO ALPINE H & S, INC. Hawley spoke against the motion. Roehl and Becker spoke in support of the motion. Motion carried 4 -0 (Hawley abstained).
