HomeMy WebLinkAboutLaw and Justice Committee May 8 1984LAW AND JUSTICE COMMITTEE Minutes -- May 8, 1984 The Law and Justice Committee was called to order at 3:15 p.m. by Committee member Hansey, with member Hawley present. Chairperson Johnson was absent. Also present were area residents of the Cedar Grove Park area. PETITION FOR REDUCTION OF SPEED LIMIT ON SAMISH WAY A review was held regarding a petition signed by 71 residents of the Cedar Grove Park proposing that a "Speed Zone Ahead" sign be placed just west of Samish Summit (the Galbraith Road interesection) and then half way down the hill, a 35 mph zone be established. Mr. Jack Christy, 4915 Samish Way, #69, spoke on behalf of the area residents and the problems that they are experiencing regarding the current 50 mph zone. Hansey suggested referring the petition to the Sheriff and Engineering Departments and request that their recommendations be heard at the next Law and Justice Committee meeting to be held May 29, 1984. Hansey also suggested that Jeff Monson, Roads Department, be present at the May 29th Law and Justice Committee meeting to present the Road Department's recommendations. RAILROAD CROSSING SIGNAL AT THE SIPER ROAD Reference was made to a letter, dated April 18, 1984, from Mr. Tom Stitt regarding the installation of a railroad crossing signal at the Siper Road railroad crossing. Hansey recommended referring Mr. Stitt's letter to the Engineering Department and request their recommendation at the May 29, 1984 Law and Justice Committee meeting. OTHER BUSINESS Hawley spoke regarding the closing of Percie Road at the railroad crossing. Hansey recommended sending a letter to Paul Rushing, Director of Public Works, and invite him to the next Law and Justice Committee meeting (May 29, 1984) and request that he report regarding the situation of the Percie Road closure at the railroad crossing, and also provide information, for a brief discussion, regarding the County policy for the closure of County roads over railroad crossings. Hawley suggested that Tamsin Hekala, spokesperson for residents of the Percie Road area, also be invited to attend the next committee meeting for discussion purposes only.
