HomeMy WebLinkAboutLaw and Justice Committee February 7 1984LAW AND JUSTICE COMMITTEE MINUTES -- FEBRUARY 7, 1984 The Law and Justice Committee was called to order at 3:25 p.m. by Councilmember Hansey with Hawley present. Johnson was excused from the meeting. Also present were Jeff Monsen, Whatcom County Engineering; and Alyson Nelson of The Ocean Star. ORDINANCE - MODIFYING SPEED LIMIT ON VISTA DRIVE Hawley recommended "do pass" to the Council, subject to the outcome of a public hearing to be held at the Council meeting on February 16, 1984, of an ORDINANCE REGARDING THE MATTER OF MODI- FYING THE SPEED LIMIT ON VISTA DRIVE. CORRESPONDENCE - Ruby White A review was held regarding correspondence received from Ruby White, dated January 3, 1984. The subject matter of Ms. White's letter was an issue regarding dog control practices at Pt. Roberts. Hansey recommended that a letter be written to the Humane Society and the Whatcom County Sheriff's Department and ask them to attend the next Law and Justice Committee meeting to be held on February 21, 1984 at 3:00 p.m. The purpose being that the two departments could provide input to the Law and Justice Committee regarding the concerns stated in Ms. White's letter to the Council. Hawley recommended "do pass" to the Council, subject to the outcome of a public hearing to be held at the February 16, 1984 Council meeting, of the following ordinances: 1. Parking control on an unamed roadway within the Sterling Crest Plat. 2. Speed limit on Alm Road. 3. Speed limit within Birch Crest Estates. 4. Speed limit on Harvey Road 5. Stop sign control at the intersection of Greenville Street and Greenville Drive,-Greenville East Subdivision. 6. Yield sign on Beach Avenue, at its intersection with Island Drive, Lummi Island. 1,aw and Jus4..ce Committee Minutes February 7, 1984 Page 2' REVIEW - ORDINANCE RE: PUBLIC DEFENSE ADVISORY COMMITTEE A review was held regarding AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 82 -22, AN ORDINANCE TO ESTABLISH A WHATCOM COUNTY PUBLIC DEFENDER DISTRICT AND TO ESTABLISH THE OFFICE OF PUBLIC DEFENDER AND THE PUBLIC DEFENSE ADVISORY COMMITTEE. It was the consensus of the committee to hold this ordinance in the Law and Justice Committee until the next regularly scheduled meeting to be held on February 21, 1984 at 3:00 p.m. so that Councilmembers Cole and Roehl could be present to clarify the amendments to this ordinance. Being that there was no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 3:40 p.m.
