HomeMy WebLinkAboutLaw and Justice Committee April 10 1984LAW AND JUSTICE COMMITTEE Minutes -- April 10, 1984 The Law and Justice Committee was called to order on April 10. 1984 at 3:30 p.m. by Chairperson Johnson with member Hansey present. Member Hawley was not present. Also present were Mary Henry and Doddie Honrud, Bellingham- Whatcom County Humane Society; Mike Easely, Dutch Haven resident; Tillie Gerber, Paradise Lakes residents. RESOLUTION - ESTABLISHING DOG CONTROL ZONES A review was held regarding a RESOLUTION BY THE WHATCOM COUNTY COUNCIL ESTABLISHING THE POLICY FOR THE ACCEPTANCE OF PETITIONS FOR THE CREATION OF DOG CONTROL ZONES; AND SETTING FORTH THE MINIMUM AREA AND POPULATION DENSITY REQUIREMENTS. Hansey spoke in support of the resolution, stating that it is very costly to the County to enforce dog control zones and that some minimum requirements are needed to establish dog control zones. Mary Henry presented a cost analysis of enforcing a dog control zone in the following areas: 1. Dutch Haven - $4,605 2. Glen Haven - $2,763 3. Paradise Lakes - $4,605 4. Pt. Roberts - $6,447 It was the consensus of the Law and Justice Committee to work on the Resolution regarding minimum area and population density requirements.
