SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING
Minutes -- November 22, 1985
The Whatcom County Special Council. meeting was called to
order at 7:15 p.m. by Chairman Roehl with all members present.
Becker, as Chairperson of the Finance Committee, chaired the
meeting.
Becker explained how the public hearing would be conducted
and gave the Finance Committee's opening remarks and summary of
their 1986 proposed budget.
Hansey and Cole commented further on the Finance Committee's
work on the 1986 proposed budget.

especially the Sheriff's
Department.
John Rietz Spoke in support of main-
taining the present level
of staffing in the criminal
justice system; thanked the
Council for restoring monies
for Detoxification services
at the Olympic Center.
Paul Macbeth Spoke against cuts in the
Community Alcohol Center criminal justice system.
Joan Muenscher Expressed concern about cuts
Whatcom County Crisis in the criminal justice
Services system.
Roger DeSpain Thanked the Council for the
Parks Director time spent on the budget and
for the level of funding for
maintenance for the senior
centers in the proposed
budget.

There was no one else who wished to speak. Acting Chair-
person Becker read two items in the record: a letter from Ed
Kauffman and a phone call received from Bruce Burpee, opposed to
the cuts in the criminal justice system, especially with EXPO 86
coming.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:45 p.m.
