SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING
Minutes -- May 23, 1985
The Whatcom County Council. Special. Council meeting w,as called
to order at 7:15 p.m. by Vice Chairperson Hansey, with all present
except Muenscher, and Roehl, who arrived at 8:35 p.m.
PUBLIC HEARING ON MINI- INITIATIVE I -85
Chairperson Hansey introduced the Councilmembers and spoke
on the rules that would be followed during the public hearing,
with individuals receiving 3 minutes to speak, and persons speaking
on behalf of an organization receiving 6 minutes to speak.
The public hearing was declared open in the matter of the
mini - initiative I -85 entitled "SHALL WHATCOM COUNTY'BE DECLARED
AN ABORTION FREE ZONE AND PENALTIES ESTABLISHED FOR VIOLATION
THEREOF ?"
Ken Bridges Spoke in support of the mini - initiative;
4016 Toad Lake Road entered into the record the following:
report entitled "Induced Terminations
of Pregnancy in Washington State" (exhibit
#8); booklet prepared by Ken Bridges
(exhibit #7); video tape shown (exhibit
#9).
Nancy Reese, R.N. Works with premature babies; spoke in
Lynden support of the mini - initiative.
Mike Gowan Spoke in support of the mini - initiative;
2300 California entered into the record a transcript of
his statement (exhibit #5) and a book
entitled "Rites of Life" by Shettles and
Rorvik (exhibit #6).
Mark Flanders Spoke against the mini - initiative.
