HomeMy WebLinkAboutFinance Committee January 2 1985A WHATCOM COUNTY COUNCIL FINANCE COMMITTEE Minutes -- January 2, 1985 The Finance Committee was called to order by Acting Chairperson Muenscher with Committee member Cole present. Becker was absent. TEMPORARY OFFICE HELP SERVICES FOR 1985 - ASSESSOR'S OFFICE Executive Van Zanten provided background information on this bid award for temporary office help services for 1985 in the Assessor's office, with a recommended bid award to BesTemp Personnel. Vic Battson, County Assessor, explained the need his office has for temporary help at certain times of the year. Pat DeHaan, Administrative Assistant, explained the differences between the two bidders. COLE MOVED TO RECOMMEND APPROVAL TO THE COUNCIL OF THE BID AWARD TO BESTEMP PERSONNEL FOR TEMPORARY OFFICE HELP FOR 1985. The motion carried. INDIGENT DEFENSE CONFLICT CONTRACT - BOBBINK AND SIMMERS Executive Van Zanten stated that both she and the Assigned Counsel had recommended that the contract for indigent defense conflict cases be awarded to Bobbink and Simmers in the amount of $1,000.00 per month. She further stated that the Public Defense Advisory Committee had reviewed and concurred with the Executive's recommendation. COLE MOVED TO RECOMMEND APPROVAL TO THE COUNCIL OF THE BID AWARD FOR THE INDIGENT DEFENSE CONFLICT CONTRACT TO BOBBINK AND SIMMERS IN THE AMOUNT OF $1,000.00 PER MONTH. The motion carried. DISCUSSION OF MILEAGE RATE FOR USE OF PRIVATE VEHICLES Executive Van Zanten distributed copies of Whatcom County Code Chapter 2.64.040 and asked for clarification on the Finance Committee's intention of provisos "D" and "M" of the 1985 budget ordinance. Cole stated that the intent was to have the budget ordinance provisos reflect the standard County rate, and that it was intended to apply to employees, to encourage them to use the County's motor pool whenver possible. Finance Committee January 2, 1985 Page 2 Executive Van Zanten stated that she would now go back and take a closer look at the wording. Cole spoke in support of looking at the cost of gas and perhaps coming up with a way to tie in the cost when coming up with a fair mileage reimbursement rate. Executive Van Zanten stated that the Civil Deputy Prosecu- ting Attorney had stated that the Wh atcom County Code was the control document in this circumstance and that professional contracts were being written up at 19� per mile, per the Whatcom County Code.
