HomeMy WebLinkAboutCommittee of the Whole February 21 1985WHATCOM COUNTY COUNCIL COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE Minutes -- February 21, 1985 The Whatcom County Council Committee of the Whole meeting was called to order at 6:45 p.m. by Chairman Roehl, with all members present except Hansey. DISCUSSION OF THE JOINT POWERS AGREEMENT WITH THE CITY OF BELLINGHAM REGARDING THE DISPOSITION OF SOLID WASTE Chairman Roehl turned the meeting over to Executive Van Zanten. Executive Van Zanten briefed the Council on the back- ground of the project and agreement and addressed the substitute page 2 of the agreement. Executive Van Zanten spoke in support of the agreement, with some reservations. Executive Van Zanten answered Councilmembers' questions regarding the agreement and the request for proposal phase of the project. Johnson spoke against the agreement. Becker stated she has no objection to the intent of the agreement. Hawley spoke in support of the Bellingham City Council and the County Council working together to make up the request for proposal document. Following further discussion, Chairman Roehl noted that this item had been added to the Council agenda this evening. Cole urged the Council to seek to cooperate with the City of Bellingham on this issue. He spoke in support of the agreement. Muenscher spoke in support of spending more time looking at this issue.
