HomeMy WebLinkAboutPublic Services January 4 1986WHATCOM COUNTY COUNCIL PUBLIC SERVICES COMMITTEE Minutes - January 4, 1986 The Whatcom County Council Public Services Committee was called to order at 4:10 p.m. with Councilmembers Johnson and Hawley present; Councilmember Burton was absent. Also present was Executive Shirley Van Zanten. HAWLEY MOVED TO NOMINATE JOHNSON AS CHAIRMAN OF THE PUBLIC SERVICES COMMITTEE. The motion carried. APPOINTMENTS OF COMMISSIONERS. SUPERVISORS AND DIRECTORS FOR SPECIAL DISTRICTS OF DRAINAGE, DRAINAGE IMPROVEMENT, CONSOLIDATED DRAINAGE IMPROVEMENT, AND FLOOD CONTROL Chairman Johnson explained the background on these appoint- ments and the work that Joanne Miller, District Manager of the Whatcom County Conservation District, has done compiling all of the information given to the committee. HAWLEY MOVED TO RECOMMEND APPROVAL TO THE FULL COUNCIL APPOINTMENTS OF COMMISSIONERS, SUPERVISORS AND DIRECTORS FOR SPECIAL DISTRICTS OF DRAINAGE, DRAINAGE IMPROVEMENT, CONSOLIDATED DRAINAGE IMPROVEMENT, AND FLOOD CONTROL. Hawley spoke to his motion stating his concern as to whether the appointed persons know that they are required to secure a bond payable to their respective district. Executive Van Zanten will be contacting Joanne Miller to clarify the bond issue. The motion carried. Public Services Committee Minutes - January 4, 1986 Page 2 Chairman Johnson informed the members of the committee that he has received a request from some people living near the Ten Mile Road and the Hemmi Road, which is between two schools. They are requesting that a no passing, double stripe, be put through this area. Chairman Johnson stated that he has contacted Paul Rushing and Bob Jurica and they are checking in the legality of doing this.
