PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE
March 27, 1986
The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. by Chairman Muenscher
with all members present. Also present were: Executive Shirley
Van Zanten; Donovan Kehrer, Buildings and Codes; Bill Trimm,
Planning; and Paul Tillman and Jerry Joubert of the Whatcom
County Fire Chiefs Association.
REVIEW PROPOSED ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING MINIMUM STANDARDS FOR
REQUIRED FIRE FLOW FOR FIRE PROTECTION UNDER SECTION 10.301(C)
OF THE 1982 EDITION OF THE UNIFORM FIRE CODE AS ADOPTED BY WHATCOM
COUNTY AND AMENDING WHATCOM COUNTY CODE SECTIONS 15.16.040 AND
15.16.060 AND ORDINANCE NO. 84 -40
Donovan Kehrer explained the proposed ordinance, and distri-
buted copies of an alternative ordinance which had been drafted in
order to address the concerns voiced by some of the fire chiefs.
Jerry Joubert outlined some of the problems his organization
had with the ordinance, and urged that a committee be appointed
to study the issue.
JOHNSON MOVED TO TABLE THE ORDINANCE AND APPOINT A COMMITTEE
TO STUDY ALL FACETS OF THE PROPOSED ORDINANCE.
The motion carried.
REVIEW PROPOSED ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE 86 -9 TO MORE CLEARLY
SET FORTH THE APPLICABILITY OF THAT ORDINANCE TO CERTAIN PROPERTIES
SITUATED ADJACENT TO POWER LINE RIGHTS -OF -WAY
BURTON MOVED TO RECOMMEND THAT THE COUNCIL ADOPT THE ORDINANCE.
The motion carried.
OTHER BUSINESS
Johnson asked about the plans to dead -end Thomas Road in
connection with the Cordata Project. Bill Trimm said that Thomas
Road would be dead -ended but provisions would be made to ensure
that no -one's property would be land - locked.
The meeting was adjourned.
