HomeMy WebLinkAboutSpecial Council October 27 1987WHATCOM COUNTY COUNCIL SPECIAL MEETING October 27, 1987 The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Council Chair Burton with Hawley, Johnson, Roehl and Warner present. Hansey and Muenscher arrived shortly thereafter. DECISION ON SUMAS MOUNTAIN ORV PARK Park Department Director Roger DeSpain spoke to the Council about the history of the ORV Park project's development, its source of funding, and the rationale for the project. Park Board Vice Chair Leslie Clark explained to the Council that the Park Board had voted 4 -3 in favor of a resolution recommending that the Whatcom County Council allow work on the proposed Sumas Mountain ORV Facility to proceed. BURTON MOVED THAT THE WHATCOM COUNTY COUNCIL APPROVE OF THE PLAN FOR AND DIRECT THE PARK DEPARTMENT AND PARK BOARD TO CONTINUE PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT OF AN OFF -ROAD VEHICLE PARK AT SUMAS MOUNTAIN. Each Council member spoke briefly on the motion. The motion failed 2 -5 (Burton, Hansey, Johnson, Muenscher, Warner). Council Chair Burton stated that the Sumas Mountain ORV Park project was thereby terminated.
