PUBLIC SERVICES COMMITTEE
July 16, 1987
The meeting was called to order at 6:35 p.m. by Committee
Chair Johnson with Hawley present. Hansey arrived at 6 :47 P.M.
Also present were Ed Henken, County Engineer, and Paul Rushing,
Public Works.
DISCUSSION OF ENQINEERtS REPORT ON BELL-WEST IVE PETITIO
Ed Henken explained the issues surrounding the petition for
the County to accept Bell -West Drive as a county road. He said
that the road was in fairly good condition but would need
patching and a seal coat. The speed bumps would also have to be
removed if the County accepted the road.
There was discussion about the conditions the petitioners
should meet if the County were to accept the road.
HAWLEY MOVED TO PASS ON THE PETITION TO THE FULL COUNCIL FOR
A HEARING WITH THE RECOMMENDATION THAT THE PETITIONERS REMOVE THE
SPEED BUMPS AND PATCH THE ROAD PRIOR TO ITS ACCEPTANCE BY THE
COUNTY, AND THAT THE ROAD BE ASSIGNED A SPEED LIMIT OF 25 MPH.
The motion carried.
A citizen living on Bell -West Drive arrived at the meeting
at that point, and stated that most of the residents living on
the road were opposed to having the County take it over. She
said that the majority of the petitioners did not live on the
road but used it for access, and they wanted the County to take
it over in order to get the speed bumps removed. She maintained
that the majority of residents living on the road wanted it to
remain private and wanted the recently - installed speed bumps to
remain as well. A map prepared by the Engineering Department
verified that most of the petitioners did not live on the road.
HAWLEY WITHDREW HIS MOTION.
HANSEY MOVED TO HOLD THE ISSUE IN COMMITTEE UNTIL THE NEXT
MEETING TO ALLOW FOR RECEIPT OF FURTHER INFORMATION.
The motion carried. The meeting was adjourned at 7:10 P.M.
