HomeMy WebLinkAboutPublic Services October 6 1988WHATCOM COUNTY COUNCIL PUBLIC SERVICES COMMITTEE MINUTES October 6, 1988 The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. by Committee Chairman Corky Johnson, with members Mary Vanderpol and Emily Jackson present. The reports from Planning and Engineering were read. VANDERPOL MOVED TO RECOMMEND APPROVAL TO THE COUNCIL. Motion carried. c .o k S m_F.,rge.,Me h,oa :is: -t..,Qh c Engineer Ed Henken explained there had been some complaint from the church regarding the recommended value of the land. He said the value was double- checked and still came out the same. Committee members discussed it; Vanderpol said the price was pretty cheap, Johnson noted the church does not pay taxes. The committee decided to leave it as recommended. VANDERPOL MOVED TO RECOMMEND APPROVAL AS NOTED IN ENGINEERS REPORT TO THE FULL COUNCIL. Motion carried. Johnson said the petitioner claimed he had promised, many years ago, to give the land to them. He said he did not recall such a promise, but withdrew himself from consideration of the matter. Vanderpol said he thought the price was reasonable. JACKSON MOVED TO RECOMMEND APPROVAL TO THE FULL COUNCIL. Motion carried. Dorr regarding traffic in Birch Bay, possibly on Birch Bay Drive. The writer had talked to the Sheriff and was sent to the Council. Johnson asked that the Engineer and Sheriff check into the speed limit in that area and whether a reduction is needed, and to report back to the Committee.
