HomeMy WebLinkAboutPublic Services August 4 1988WHATCOM COUNTY COUNCIL PUBLIC SERVICES COMMITTEE August 4, 1988 The meeting was called to order at 6 p.m. by Committee Chairman Corky Johnson, with members Emily Jackson and Mary Vanderpol present. ORDINANCE IN THE MATTER OF ESTABLISHING PROCEDURES FOR THE ABATEMENT AND REMOVAL AS A PUBLIC NUISANCE ABANDONED VEHICLES OR AUTOMOBILE HULKS OR PARTS THERE OF FROM PRIVATE PROPERTY, NOT INCLUDING HIGHWAYS, AND ADDING A NEW SECTION TO WHATCOM COUNTY CODE Johnson read a letter submitted to him by Undersheriff Doug Gill, asking that the matter be put aside while the Sheriff's and Prosecuting Attorney's offices reviewed it further. Johnson noted that the public hearing scheduled for the full Council meeting would go ahead as planned; Paul Rushing, Public Works Director, recommended the hearing be held open until the next Council meeting. Committee members concurred. Jackson and Vanderpol discussed the enforceability of the ordinance, as well as the possible invasion of privacy issue. There was no motion. Johnson closed off the discussion, said he would recommend the hearing be held open until the next Council meeting. ORDINANCE REGARDING THE MATTER OF ESTABLISHING PARKING CONTROL ON KELLOGG ROAD AND CORDATA PARKWAY (Continued from July 7) There was lengthy discussion of this favor of the ordinance from John Carter of Services, in Cordata; and Susan VanCuse of College, who said students should have the the streets. Jim Holtz, a County citizen, asked what can be done about dumping on his property near the Guide Meridian; and asked why the County didn't kill the thistles growing on land next to his. Rushing said the Council could authorize the thistles to be herbicided, but said the County is no longer contributing to the dumping problem on the property in question.
