SPECIAL COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE
Friday, June 16, 1989
The meeting was called to order at 9 a.m. by Council Chairman Don
Hansey. Council members Dan Warner, Corky Johnson, Mary Vanderpol, and Will
Roehl also were present; Emily Jackson and Tom Burton were absent.
INTERVIEW OF APPLICANTS FOR THE VACANT COUNTY ASSESSOR'S POSITION.
The three finalists, Ken Brown, Keith Willnauer and Kenneth Birkel, all
employees of the Whatcom County Assessor's Office, were present. The clerk
drew names from a bowl, determining that the interview order would be: Birkel,
Willnauer, Brown.
Each candidate was interviewed for about 30 minutes. The contents of
the interviews will not be set down in writing; however, a tape of the meeting
is available in the Council Office if anyone would like to listen to it.
At about 10 :30 a.m. the Council recessed into executive session to
evaluate the qualifications of all three candidates.
The committee of the whole adjourned at 11 a.m.

The meeting was called to order in the Council Chambers at 3:04 p.m. by
Hansey. Roehl, Warner and Johnson were present. Vanderpol arrived after the
vote was taken. Jackson and Burton were absent.
APPOINTMENT OF WHATCOM COUNTY ASSESSOR, FOR PERIOD BEGINNING MONDAY, JUNE 19
THROUGH NOVEMBER, 1989.
JOHNSON MOVED TO PLACE THE NAME OF KEITH M. WILLNAUER IN NOMINATION.
There were no other nominees, Hansey closed the nominations.
The vote to appoint Willnauer was unanimous.
Hansey asked if Willnauer would like to say a few words. Willnauer said
lie was excited about the appointment, and that he looks forward to getting the
Assessor's Office to run the best it can. Council members offered
congratulations and promises of full cooperation to Willnauer.
The appointment will take effect Monday, June 19, 1989.
The meeting adjourned at 3:10 p.m.
