PUBLIC SERVICES AND SOLID WASTE COMMITTEE
April 20, 1989
The meeting was called to order at 6 :30 p.m. by Committee Chairman Corky
Johnson, with Council Members Dan Warner and Mary Vanderpol present. Also
present were Jack Weiss, Environmental Resource Services; Bob Jurica, Solid
Waste Manager; and Nassar Mansour, Public Works.
1. DISCUSSION OF A PROPOSED DISPOSAL RATE ORDINANCE (REQUESTED BY THE
EXECUTIVE; NO PAPERWORK)
There was no discussion of this item. No paperwork was submitted at the
meeting.
2. RESOLUTION APPROVING A COMPREHENSIVE COUNTY -WIDE RECYCLING PROGRAM
AND AUTHORIZING SUBMITTAL OF GRANT APPLICATIONS TO THE REFERENDA
26 AND 39 GRANT PROGRAM FOR WASTE REDUCTION AND RECYCLING
(PROPOSED BY JACK WEISS, ENVIRONMENTAL RESOURCE SERVICES)
Warner explained that this will authorize ERS to submit a grant
application for this state - funded program. There was some discussion.
WARNER MOVED THAT THE RESOLUTION'BE RECOMMENDED TO THE FULL COUNCIL FOR
APPROVAL.
Motion carried.
3. OTHER BUSINESS
Nuclear Free Zone: Johnson asked the staff to write to the appropriate
state agency to determine if signs declaring "Whatcom County is a Nuclear Free
Zone" may be posted at roads entering the County.
The meeting adjourned at 6 :55 p.m.
