PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE
March 1, 1989
The meeting was called to order by Committee member Will Roehl with Emily
Jackson present. Committee Chairman Tom Burton was absent. Also present were
Dan Taylor and Carl Batchelor, Planning; and Ted Smith.
1. ORDINANCE AMENDING THE LYNDEN - NOOKSACK VALLEY SUBAREA COMPREHENSIVE
PLAN MAP FROM RESIDENTIAL RURAL TO GENERAL COMMERCIAL, AND AMENDING
THE OFFICIAL ZONING MAP FROM RES.- RURAL -TWO DWELLINGS PER ACRE TO
GEN. COMM. FOR A 0.78 ACRE PARCEL EAST GUIDE MERIDIAN, NORTH OF EAST
WISER LAKE ROAD
Batchelor explained this ordinance. The plan would be to move the
RVs currently parked close to the right -of -way to a lot further
south. The advantages of allowing this rezone would be that the
owner would be forced to clean up the lot with proper access to the
property from the road and make parking spaces.
RoehI said we need to ask Buildings and Codes 1f they can enforce
violations with present resources.
Roehl mowed to recommend adoption of this ordinance with an added
clause stating that all enforcement expenses, including attorney
fees, may be recouped from the owner.
Motion carried.
2. THE GAS STATION ISSUE IN POINT ROBERTS
Taylor explained the changes he has been working on in the interim
zoning code change that would make gas stations a conditional use
in Point Roberts. After some discussion and clarification Taylor
agreed to revise this ordinance further.
Jackson asked if a recommendation should be made before Council.
Roehl moved to recommend adoption of an ordinance extending the
moratorium until January 1990 or until the Comprehensive Plan is in
place (whichever comes first).
Motion carried.
Meeting adjourned at 11:50 a.m.
