PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE
February 15, 1989
The meeting was called to order by Committee Chairman Tom Burton with
member Emily Jackson present. Member Will Roehl absent. Also present was Dan
Taylor, Planning.
Election of Officer
Tom Burton was officially elected as Chairman of the this committee for
1989.
Taylor stated that this was introduced November 3, 1988 and tabled for
further study.
Burton moved to recommend adoption to Council.
Motion carried.
This Ordinance was passed at the Point Roberts meeting, February 9,
1989.
Ordinance amendina the interim zonina code text to reaulate service stations
Taylor explained this ordinance and said he prefers the moratorium but
this would be a good alternative. He mentioned that the hearing examiner
already has the power to prohibit further permits without new conditions.
Taylor was asked to change some of the language in the proposed
ordinance and return it to the Planning and Development Meeting on March 1.
Other business
Burton asked how the Point Roberts Comprehensive Plan is progressing.
Taylor stated that there are three public meetings planned for May. The plan
should go to the Planning Commission in June or July and to the Council by
September or before. He said the hardest part will be the Commercial (R4, R5
and R10). There are over a thousand lots ready for development now.
Jackson mentioned that the Nuclear Free Zone notation will be on all
future maps in the County to adhere to the initiative passed in 1984. That
initiative should have been codified in whole.
