ORDINANCE AMENDING COUNTY CODE SECTION 8.12, REVIS- ING THE FEE SCHEDULE FOR SOLID WASTE DISPOSAL AT COUNTY SOLID WASTE SITES (AB90 -131) Imhof said he had heard it costs $200 per ton to leave waste at Cedarville. Bob Jurica stated it was operated by Sanitary Service at this time and the County has no authority over it now. He said it would be cheaper for people to take their waste directly to Recomp instead of having . Sanitary Service transfer it there from Cedarville. Jurica said the County was considering approximately $160 if they had continued to use Cedarville. -2- 4. HAMPTON ROAD Vanderpol explained that Bernie Meenderich wanted the S curves taken out of this road but the County Engineers would only recommend softening the curves and putting a 35 mph limit on the road. Meenderinch then distributed a petition to the committed stating the people who signed were gravely concerned with the engineering proposal. The petitioner would like to. meet with Vanderpol, Vander Yacht and the affected industry leaders in the area. Vanderpol read a letter from Larry Kamm, Superintendent at the Lynden Christian School supporting the Hampton Road petitioner's concerns. A second letter from Howard Hampton, Lynden Public Schools was also read by Vanderpol. Several neighbors including Andy Bergsma spoke against straightening the S curves. There has never been an accident on the S curves and if it was straightened, people would only drive faster. He recommended the speed be set at 30 mph for all weather conditions. Empty milk trucks drive far too fast (LTI in particular), said Bergsma. There was discussion of the types of connector roads that engineering is considering. Meenderich asked if the County had considered paying a higher price to Bergsma. Bergsma said that would not mean anything because his concern is safety; he has children he does not want harmed. Mansour from the Engineering Department said the new proposal will make it a lot safer. Vanderpol said that at first he wanted to have the S curves straightened out, but after hearing both sides, he has changed his mind. IMHOF MOVED TO TABLE THIS ITEM. Motion failed with only Imhof voting for the issue. Imhof explained his reason for wanting this tabled. There was no motion to bring it to the full Council. Vander Yacht said he felt badly that this group would not be heard by the full Council, but he really could not recommend that it go forward. -3- The meeting was adjourned at 6:45 p.m. ATTEST: WHATCOM COUNTY COUNCIL WHATCOM COUNTY, WASHINGTON Bar ara Maher, Co cil Clerk Marvin G.
