HomeMy WebLinkAboutPlanning and Development January 16 1990WHATCOM COUNTY COUNCIL PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE MEETING January 16, 1990 The meeting was called to order at 1 p.m. by Council Chairman Don Hansey. Committee member Marge Laidlaw was present; Emily Jackson was absent. The only item of business on the agenda was as follows: NO ITEMS SCHEDULED FOR THIS MEETING; THEREFORE IT MAY BE CANCELLED. Haney suggested that the Committee elect its chairperson, and nominated Laidlaw. Motion carried unanimously. HANSEY MOVED TO SCHEDULE PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE MEETINGS FOR 1:30 P.M. RATHER THAN 1 P.M. Motion carried. Hansey had asked Planning Director Dan Taylor and Planner Terry Galvin to update the Committee on various projects that will be coming before the Planning and Development Committee in the coming years. February: -The Shorelines master plan is being down - graded from an ordinance to a resolution, at the suggestion of the state Department of Ecology. Taylor said the Council should give some consideration to setting up a Shorelines Committee in February- March. -Point Roberts Comprehensive Plan should be finished by the Planning Commission and forwarded to the Council. Council may want to have a partial hearing on this plan in March. - Nooksack study resolution -Joint urban fringe resolution - Critical water supply area resolution -Water supply grant application (resolution) March: -Open space applications should be coming to Council. - Clearing permit regulation can be expected. -Money will be transferred from Planning to Assessor so the Assessor's Office can catch up on some needed paperwork. April: -Sign regulations should be ready. May through July: - Council should appoint a member to the Drayton Harbor Committee. P &D Minutes, 1/16/90, Page 2 - Gravel pit regulations can be expected. - Private rezones will come forward. - Sensitive Areas legislative report coming (being done by private group) Through 1991, Taylor said, Planning will be working with the Lummi Indian Tribe for zoning the reservation. Also on the Planning Department's slate: South Fork Com- prehensive Plan, Urban Fringe Plan, Transportation study. There was discussion.
