WHATCOM COUNTY COUNCIL
Minutes of Special Meeting
Monday, July 28, 1980
The meeting was called to order at 11:05 a.m. with all members
present but I-iansey. The purpose of the meeting was to reach a decision
on the resolution in the matter of submitting to the voters of Whatcom
County a proposal to exceed the 106% Levy Lid, as provided by Law.
Muenscher moved to adopt the resolution, and spoke in favor of
it. McIntyre asked to have the amount pe.r thousand that is currently
being used clarified. The correct amount is 1.25884 per thousand.
McIntyre and Johnson both spoke against the resolution on the grounds.
that the Council should try to balance the budget with the amount of
revenues currently available. Roehl and Muenscher felt that it should
be up to the people if they wish to have as good services in the future
as at the present, or if they would like to have services cut back,
which would happen if the levy lid were not raised. Donnellan brought
up the reasons for the current shortages.
County Executive Louws and Lewis Turner, Assessor, answered spec-
ific questions of Council members.
The motion to pass the re -solution passed on a majority vote.
Meeting adjourned at 11:36.
