Public hearing on the proposed 1980 budget was opened at 7:10 p.m. on November
19, 1979. All Council members were present. Testimony was taken on the budget.
About ISO people were present, with many giving testimony. the following people
'poke in favor of maintaining the Parks Department budget at the level as requested
i,y that department:
Bobbie Snead, Bud Larson, Russel Yates, Jill Foote, Walter Bayless, James Brady,
Day.ld lbill., August. Rsdke, Bruce Freeman (gave a film presentation), Craig Podosek,
Howard ,Mi.l l s , Jackson Carter, George Thomas, Spencer Hall, Jr. , Gail Weiss,
Gladys Carol, Mar.i«n Herzer, Patrick Aless, Robert Ford (State Dept. of Game) ,
Margaret Aetkin, Sterlin Brand, Steve Althauser, Larry Beatty, Bernice Graves,
Robert: Klein, Jolul Nli.les, David Halstead., Heather Redpath, Lewis King, Bob Russ,
Irene Embrey (gave slide show), Bill Dietrich, and Bob Tull.
Lloydt llalladay ,peke in favor of the Parks Department budget remaining at the
level as presented in the preliminary budget: by 'Mr. Louws.
Exhibits on the Parks Department were entered by the following:
Bud Larson (letter from Ferndale School. Dist), Russel Yates, August Radke, Marian
Herter (l.etter from husband) , Steve Althauser, '-leather Redpath, Lewis King (entered
petition with 3,336 signatures), Irene Embrey.
Sid Wallace spoke on the overall budget, citing a letter he had sent to Governor
Ray, Barney Goltz and Roger Van Dyken, suggesting other areas where funding could
be attained.
Carlotta Jarrett was in favor of additional appropriations to be made to the
Sheriff's Department.
George Wilcox also spoke on the Sheriff's Department, and suggested a cigarette
tax as a. possibility of additional funding.
Other ideas for additional revenue were increased user fees for the Parks Depart-
ment, and an additional .1a on the sales tax.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:40 p.m.
