WATER RESOURCES COMMITTEE
October 13, 1992
The meeting was called to order at 12 noon in the Council Chambers, 1000 N. Forest
St., 2nd floor, by Barbara Brenner, Chair.

1. DISCUSSION OF COAL /GAS WELLS IN WHATCOM COUNTY (AB92-
395) (FRIENDS OF THE FRASER RIVER VALLEY WILL BE
ADDRESSING THE COMMITTEE)
Topics discussed: Background; plans for future presentations; video tapes on gas
storage; ways methane is extracted from coal; no lack of natural gas; storage of gas;
problems with aquifer storage; siting of storage areas; effects of gas leakage; effects of
pressuring water and other material to great depths; purpose of Friends of Fraser River
Valley.

Woods, Council Budget Analyst; Helen Gillum, Surrey, B.C.; Dr. Roy Giles, 5385 Shields

2. DISCUSSION OF WATER PIPE SIZE FROM FERNDALE TO THE
NORTH BELLINGHAM AREA (AB92 -396) (REQUESTED BY JAMES
GILLIES)
Due to an emergency, James Gillies was unable to attend.
Topics discussed: Design of pipes; purpose of setting pipe sizes; effects of fire flow.
Persons speaking: Brenner; Dr. Giles; Dick Pree, Weden Engineering.

Dr. Giles requested time to present a topic of interest; he will make arrangements
with Brenner.
Because there was no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
