HomeMy WebLinkAboutWater Resources February 11 1992WHATCOM COUNTY COUNCIL WATER RESOURCES COMN[IITEE February 11, 1992 The meeting was called to order at 12:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers, 2nd floor, 1000 N. Forest, by Chairperson Barbara Brenner. Present Barbara Brenner Larry Harris Absent: Robert Imhof 1. Debbie Kingsley, Program Manager for the Coordinated Water System Plan (working for the PLTD) introduced Tom Anderson. Mr. Anderson, Manager of PUD, gave a brief history of the PUD (Public Utilities District). 2. Diane Harper, Whatcom County Planning Dept., explained how the Coordinated Water System Plan (CWSP) came to be in Whatcom County. Three major items in the plan were: 1) Study of the Nooksack River, 2) Groundwater Study, and 3) Coordinated Water System Plan. Also discussed were the number of small water systems in place. 3. Sue Blake, Whatcom County Health Dept., explained problems with public water systems. Existing and new public & private systems must be able to meet need for safe and adequate water supply. Systems must meet state and local regulations: quality criteria, quantity, and system design and construction. Existing systems are very hard to regulate and many are not in compliance: Blake explained some of the consequences. 4. Debbie Kingsley explained the process for the CWSP and what the state expects. 5. The committee also discussed future options and what effect growth will have. It was agreed that further meetings were necessary. Barbara Brenner requested that a list be drawn of ongoing topics for meetings and that she receive them a week in advance of the meeting. It was agreed that the standing committee would meet every second and fourth Tuesday at noon if there is something scheduled for the agenda The next meeting was planned for Tuesday, February 25 at noon.
