HomeMy WebLinkAboutPublic Services February 8 1994WHATCOM COUNTY COUNCIL Public Services and Solid Waste Committee February 8, 1994 The meeting was called to order at 1:30 p.m. by Committee Chair, Barbara Brenner in the Council Chambers, 1000 N. Forest Street. Also present: Absent: Ken Henderson None Alvin Starkenburg (arrived late) 1. PARTIAL CLOSURE AND TRAFFIC RESTRICTION OF ROOSEVELT ROAD BETWEEN TYEE DRIVE AND A POINT 250 FEET WEST OF TYEE DRIVE IN POINT ROBERTS, WASHINGTON (AB94 -069) Henderson moved to recommend to the Council that a hearing be scheduled in March. Motion carried 2 -0 with Starkenburg absent. 2. DISCUSSION ON THE CITY OF BELLINGHAM DISABLED PARKING ORDINANCE (AB94 -074) Starkenburg arrived at the meeting at this point. Henderson moved the Chair get further definition on the legal questions and other implication of passage of this issue. Motion carried unanimously. 3. UPDATE ON THE SOLID WASTE ADVISORY COMMITTEE (AB93- 353) There was a brief discussion which led into the following issue. 4. PRESENTATION BY BOB JURICA, SOLID WASTE DIVISION, ON STATUS OF CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS WITH RECOMP (AB93- 353) Bob Jurica, Solid Waste Manager, gave a brief history and with Shirley Van Zanten, County Executive and Nate Brown, Director, Planning and Development Services, explained the status of the contract negotiations with RECOMP. Jim Kaemingk, Sr., Mayor of Lynden, and Dan Liedecker, Nooksack Valley Disposal, also spoke.
