Baker High School, Mt. Baker Highway, Deming. Also Present: Marlene Dawson Barbara Brenner Larry Harris Alvin Starkenburg Ken Henderson Ward Nelson County Planning Commissioners Present: Rod Erickson David Ernst Clare Fogelsong Leslie Hamilton Jerry Landcastle Dave Simpson Phillip Urso Emil Baijot (late) Absent: None Absent: Elaine McRory 1. JOINT PUBLIC HEARING WITH THE PLANNING COMMISSION ON THE DRAFT COMPREHENSIVE PLAN (AB94 -508A) 30 Vickie Matheson listed information distributed to Council Members and 31 Commissioners for meetings. She noted there is a 45 -day comment period for the 32 Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). 33 34 Imhof opened the public hearing, and the following people spoke: 35 36 Art Anderson, 5326 Williams Road: Spoke to the Jobs -Based Economy 37 Resolution 38 Bob Hughes: Spoke on transportation issues 39 Paul Graff 3355 Y Road: Supports simple language that makes sense 40 Lesa Starkenburg - Kroontje, 115 Front Street, Lynden, representing Calvin Ready 41 Mix: Spoke to designated lands as mineral resource lands 42 Keith Howard: Comp Plan and maps are not consistent 43 Bill Eisenburg, Peaceful Valley: Referring to page 2 -51, the property is not 44 suitable for development Draft Comp Plan Minutes, 2/15/95, Page 1 1 Clair Cedbaka, Representing Lummi and Nooksack Tribes: Had questions 2 regarding flood management and water availability 3 Richard Gilda, Jensen Road, Bellingham: Spoke to accessory housing in the Lake 4 Whatcom Watershed 5 Jerry Hunter, Superintendant, Mt. Baker School District: Encouraged 6 employment and transportation in the Mt. Baker area 7 Tom Brown, 7024 Mt. Baker Highway (provided handout): Complained there is 8 little, if any, access to the Comp Plan documents by the public; increased financial 9 impact of the Comp Plan to the County 10 Dolores Brown, 7024 Mt. Baker Highway: Supports use of 1989 Comp Plan and 11 requests the Council to amend that as needed 12 Roger Almskaar, 1400 Broadway: Down zoning should not be the only alternative 13 to open space; agricultural land; increased regulations 14 Jane Freestone, 3200 Valette Street: Called attention to error on page 18: 15 "Consider need for additional ..." should read "... SW ..:.. (Clerk's Note.
