November 1, 1994
The meeting was called to order at 10 a.m. by Committee Chair Alvin
Starkenburg in the Council Chambers, 311 Grand Avenue.
Also Present:
Barbara Brenner
Ward Nelson
Absent:
None
Other Council Members present were Bob Imhof, Marlene Dawson and Ken
Henderson (arrived late). Council Budget and Program Analyst Bob Woods also was
present. All participated in discussion.
BUDGET REVIEW SESSION (AB94 -551)
COOPERATIVE EXTENSION
21 Craig MacConnell, Cooperative Extension department head, addressed the
22 Committee. Laurel Baldwin and Cheryl Wilder addressed the Committee regarding the
23 Weed Board budget. Henderson arrived about 10:35 a.m. during the Weed Board
24 budget discussion. After each presentation, discussion ensued. Baldwin distributed
25 materials to Council Members present (on file).

27 TRANSPORTATION SERVICES

29 Transportation Services Director Jeff Monsen introduced staff members present
30 and made a short presentation to the Committee. He distributed a packet of
31 information to Council Members present (on file). Discussion ensued.

33 Dick Prieve, Assistant Superintendent, Maintenance & Operations, answered
34 questions regarding work crews.

36 Ed Henken, Engineering, addressed questions regarding survey crews.

38 Brenner left the meeting for a few moments but returned at 11 :30 a.m. Dawson
39 and Imhof left the room at 11:35 a.m. and returned shortly thereafter. Before their
40 return, Brenner again left the meeting at 11:37 a.m. and returned a few minutes
41 afterward.

At noon the Committee took a five minute recess. The meeting resumed at
12:05 p.m. Transportation Services was still under discussion. Dawson arrived at
12:07 p.m.; Brenner arrived shortly thereafter.
Eric Schlehuber, Senior Accountant, spoke to the ferry division traffic. He stated
the 1994 figures are about the same as 1993. Mr. Schlehuber also answered questions
regarding fee schedules and hardware /software.
Shirley Van Zanten, County Executive, addressed the issue of the incomplete
parking lots.
The meeting was adjourned at 1:05 p.m.
