The meeting was called to order at 1:30 p.m. by Committee Chair Barbara Brenner in the
Council Committee Room, 311 Grand Avenue.

COMMITTEE DISCUSSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS TO COUNCIL
1. DISCUSSION REGARDING REQUESTING THE ADMINISTRATION TO
DRAFT DOCUMENTATION ESTABLISHING A "MEMORIAL SIGN
PROGRAM" FOR VICTIMS OF DRUNK DRIVING ACCIDENTS (AB96 -285)
Brenner announced a misunderstanding between her and Ed Henken, Engineering.
Henken stated he wanted an expression of interest from Council before a proposed ordinance is
introduced. He was agreeable to having this item introduced in two weeks (August 6), thus
bringing it for Council action on September 3. (Clerk's Note: There is only the one meeting in
August.)
Ward Nelson, Council member, commented.
Brenner stated she would request this item be scheduled for Council and public input on
August 6.

FEASIBILITY OF COUNTY INVOLVEMENT IN A SKATEBOARD, IN-LINE
SKATE, AND BICYCLE PARK (AB96 -286)

Topics discussed included: BMX; skateboarding; the above activities for ages of both
sexes; sponsors; good quality BMX track; insurance through the American Bicycle Association;
drug testing (D.A.R.E. involved in this process); benefit races; safety; formation of clubs; amount
of land needed; agreement for skating facilities; and possible sites.
Brenner moved to recommend bringing forward to full Council at tonight's meeting to
request the Administration examine the feasibility of County involvement in a skateboard/in -line
skate/bicycle park and report to the Council in conjunction with the 1997 budget.
Motion carried unanimously.
OTHER BUSINESS
1. REQUEST COUNCIL CONFIRMATION FOR THE EXECUTIVE TO IMPLEMENT
THE ANNUAL INTEGRATED ROADSIDE VEGETATION MANAGEMENT
PROGRAM FOR 1997 PER ORDINANCE #94 -044 (AB96 -279)

Brenner moved to recommend confirmation.
